The holiday season is almost here, and for some of us, that means we’ll be hopping into the car to go visit family and friends.
In fact, AAA estimates that 54.3 million Americans will travel 50+ miles this Thanksgiving; and nearly 90% of them will do so by car.
If you happen to be part of that 90%, try keeping these 3 quick tips in mind.
1. Fill your gas tank beforehand. Instead of stopping halfway through your trip to get gas, fill the tank before you leave. This can help do away with the stress of waiting in line at the gas pump during the middle of the day when the busy holiday traffic is at its peak.
2. Put safety first. Keep an eye on the weather. You may be eager to reach your destination, but if driving conditions are difficult, please travel with care and find a safe place to pull over if circumstances become dangerous. Also, make sure your vehicle is packed with an emergency preparedness kit – including first aid, water, blankets, a flashlight, and other important items.
3. Plan the details. If you do have to make stops during your trip, plan ahead and pick where you plan to stop beforehand. Planning will help you break the trip up in an organized way and still get you to your destination on time.
You should also decide who will be driving ahead of time, especially if you plan to return the same day. If there will be alcohol at your destination, and you plan to partake, make sure someone will stay sober so they can drive the return journey.
